We configure the app on your phone before we leave, connect it to the recorder or cloud system, and walk you through checking live footage, pulling up recorded clips, and setting up motion alerts, so you are not left staring at a blank app wondering how it works. We also show you how to share access with another family member or staff member if more than one person needs it.

Depends on the property and what you actually want covered — a typical house is usually four to six cameras covering the front and back entry points, the driveway and any side access like a gate, since those are the spots most opportunistic break-ins actually come through. A shop or warehouse is scoped individually based on the layout, entry and exit points, stock areas and any blind spots around the building. We walk the site with you in person, point out where coverage actually matters and where a camera would just be looking at a fence, and recommend a setup based on that — not just sell you a fixed four or eight camera package regardless of what your property needs.

In most cases yes, depending on the age and brand of what is already installed and whether the existing recorder has spare capacity for more cameras. We check what you have got during the quote — the recorder, the cabling, and whether the existing cameras are even still working well — and tell you honestly whether it makes sense to extend the current system or whether it is old enough or limited enough that starting fresh would actually serve you better and cost less hassle long term than fighting compatibility issues with an ageing recorder.

That depends on how we set it up, and we talk through the trade-offs with you as part of the quote. Continuous recording gives you a complete record of everything, which some businesses want, but it uses more storage, so footage gets overwritten sooner unless you pay for a bigger recorder or more storage. Motion-triggered recording only saves footage when something actually happens, which stretches your storage a lot further and means you are not scrolling through hours of an empty driveway to find the one relevant clip. For most homes we usually recommend motion-triggered recording with a short buffer before the trigger, so you get the lead-up to whatever set it off, not just the moment after.

Yes, and it is worth getting right, both to be a decent neighbour and because there are privacy considerations under Victorian law around footage that captures someone else's private property, like directly into their windows or backyard. We angle and position cameras during the install to cover your own property, driveway and entry points without unnecessarily capturing a neighbour's yard or windows, and we can talk through placement with you if it is a tight block where sightlines are genuinely hard to avoid. If a neighbour ever raises a concern, having cameras that were reasonably positioned in the first place makes that conversation a lot easier than it would otherwise be.

Most systems record locally to the recorder regardless of your internet connection, so footage is still being captured even if the internet drops out — you just will not be able to check it remotely on your phone until the connection is back. For remote viewing and alerts, yes, you need a working internet connection at the property, and we check what you have got as part of the quote, particularly if the recorder is going somewhere like a shed or garage that might have a weaker WiFi signal than the rest of the house. Where that is a problem we can usually run a cable to it instead of relying on WiFi, which is generally the more reliable option for something as important as your security system anyway.
